India is known for its colorful, rich and varied heritage of clothing, representing different dresses for different region. Traditional Costumes: In Style Indian traditional costumes vary on the basis of the climate and natural fibers grown in a region. For example, in cold states such as Jammu & Kashmir, people wear loose thick shirt known as a phiran to keep them warm whereas in warm South Indian states, people prefer to wear a sarong like cloth, better known as the mundu, while women prefer to page boy outfits drape a saree, a five meters of cloth around their bodies with the graceful folds. Saree is the national dress of India. Men in dry regions such as Rajasthan and Gujarat prefer to wear a length of plain cotton cloth known as dhoti around their lower limbs and a shirt-like kurta above. In Rajasthan, men wear colorful turbans to give a shine to their overall personality. Rajasthani women dress themselves in pleated skirt known as the ghagra or lehanga. A length of fine cotton known as orhni or dupatta covers the heads. People who reside in northeastern states of the country usually colorful woven sarong-like clothing and woven shawls that represent the identity of their respective tribes. In urban cities of India, women as well men have become really created a different style in clothing. They wear a blend of western and Indian costumes to present a different style statement.
